Meadow Brook
Meadow Brook
Meadow Brook is a brook in Tewksbury, in the part of old Billerica that became Tewksbury in 1734. It runs south for about a mile and a half from Ames Pond through a long strip of wooded swamp and wet meadow, which gives it its name, and joins Strong Water Brook, which carries its water on to the Shawsheen River. About midway Pinnacle Brook comes into it from the east.
The name is a descriptive one and is the brook's name on the state's hydrography map; no Billerica record of it has been found, and the Billerica records name few of the small streams of the north part of the town before Tewksbury was set off. The meadows along Strong Water Brook were among the first divided: Henry A. Hazen describes the third division of meadow, in 1658, as passing over to the great meadow south-east of Prospect Hill and following "the meadow on Strongwater Brook back to the Shawshin River again." Whether the meadow along this tributary was part of that division is not recorded.
